felt to be out. She loved bar-hopping, dancing, being with
people. Gay bars had an energy, a feeling of camaraderie and, of
course, the hope of sex, which many lesbians equated to love.
Not her. She knew the only thing she ever found in a bar was a
great lay.
And now that she had found the woman of her dreams, she
couldn t get any to save her life.
Ronnie took a long pull on her beer and watched the amusing
couples around her. She d worked in enough bars to know that at
two in the morning, all of the real couples had gone home to
bed, and the only ones left now were the ones who had just con-
nected, hoping to couple. Most were engaged in highly animated
conversations with intense eye contact and surreptitious touch-
ing. They were selling themselves to each other and doing their

best to hide their flaws not speaking too loudly or saying the
wrong thing. It was all about putting one s best foot forward, she
thought. Of course, some couples were already making out, their
bodies locked so tightly that tools would be necessary to pry
them apart.
She smiled. How she would love to take Diane dancing and
watch the people with her. Gay bars were a sociologist s heaven,
but of course Diane would never consent. A double bonus would
be dancing with her. She had a great ass, one that was meant for
shaking. Ronnie imagined how amazing it would be to hold her
tightly and sway to the beat, but it was highly unlikely they
would ever be that close together in public. Diane could barely
bring herself to be seen anywhere with Ronnie.
They had gone to the latest Jodie Foster movie the night
before, their love for everything Jodie outweighing Diane s anx-
ieties. When they arrived at the theater, the previews had already
started, and Diane directed them to a corner of the back row.
When Ronnie attempted to take her hand, Diane gently
kissed Ronnie s palm, then placed it back in her own lap. They
sat like two friends for the rest of the movie, and when it ended,
Diane bolted out of her seat before the credits even rolled, and
then waited outside until Ronnie emerged.
Are you sure you want us to get in the same car? Ronnie
asked sarcastically.
The hurt in Diane s eyes made her instantly regret the com-
ment, and she had spent the rest of the night kicking herself for
chastising Diane. She d agreed to this arrangement, and Diane
was certainly not going to make any progress if Ronnie berated
her constantly.
She sighed and raised her beer to her lips, her eyes locking
with those of a Latina beauty who d sidled up to the booth.
Your friend looks sad, she said to Brody.
She is, he agreed with a glance at Ronnie. Her girlfriend
won t take her anywhere and she s stuck coming to gay bars with

me.
The woman smiled seductively at Ronnie and leaned over the
table. Her large breasts practically tumbled out of her sweater,
and Ronnie s gaze was drawn to the large diamond that sat on
the woman s ring finger.
That s her loss, the Latina lady said. Dance with me?
Ronnie politely shook her head no and glanced at an approv-
ing Brody.
It s only a dance, the woman pressed. Your girlfriend con-
trols you so much that you can t enjoy a simple dance?
Ronnie s resistance melted at the logic. Diane wouldn t mind
if Ronnie danced with someone. It was only a dance.
Brody swore under his breath as Ronnie left the table and
wandered over to the dance floor. The Latina pulled her into an
embrace, and as their bodies shifted from one position to
another, Ronnie was conscious of where her hands drifted.
Her partner, though, wrapped her toned arms around
Ronnie s waist and let her fingers explore. You ve got an incred-
ible belly ring.
She had casually pulled up Ronnie s shirt while they danced,
and although Ronnie made every effort to ignore the blood-red
fingernails that trailed over her abdomen, she felt her entire
body tingle.
The music drifted to a sad old ballad and their bodies collided
fully. Ronnie mused that slow songs were really invented to be
vertical foreplay. Ronnie looked into her eyes. A lot of makeup,
she noted. Probably in her late forties. But she had a great body
and knew exactly how to use it invitingly. Shorter by about five
inches, she put her face between Ronnie s breasts and played
with Ronnie s zipper.
After this song, let s get out of here. She stroked the front
of Ronnie s pants and Ronnie sighed.
She was in trouble.
Excuse me. May I cut in?

Ronnie looked up to see Brody, his muscular biceps crossed
over his chest and a stern look on his face.
I don t think your friend wants you to, the Latina replied.
To make her point, she guided Ronnie s lips to her own while her
hand slid between Ronnie s legs.
The woman s kiss was tantalizing, a sharp difference from
Diane s sweet lips. These were the lips of sex.
And Ronnie missed sex.
The woman s tongue explored Ronnie s mouth fully and her
thumb gently massaged Ronnie s wetness through her pants.
Ronnie suddenly realized that at some point, her hands had
drifted to the woman s buttocks and she was squeezing them
gently.
I know I can take you right here, she whispered into
Ronnie s ear. Her free hand swept underneath Ronnie s shirt and
the fingernails stroked Ronnie s nipple. But, she continued, it
will be so much more fun in the back of my Lexus. Meet me in
the parking lot in five minutes. I m the red Lexus in the corner.
Hurry. I have to get home in half an hour. She pulled away and
headed toward the exit.
Brody stared at Ronnie in disgust. So much for Diane, he
snarled.
Watching him return to the table, Ronnie remained glued to
the floor, too stunned to move. She couldn t believe what had
just happened and her own reaction floored her. She had let a
stranger dry hump her. That was nothing new, but she had
declared herself to Diane.
What the hell was wrong with her?
She returned to the table where Brody stood. He finished his
beer in three swallows, smacked the bottle on the table and
wiped his lips on the back of his hand.
Okay, I m leaving. He dropped a few bills down and
reached for his jacket.
Brody, wait. I m sorry about what happened.

No, you re not. You wanted that woman to come on to you.
All you think about is fucking women. It doesn t matter that
you re involved with someone. Where I come from, we have a
name for girls like you.
Ronnie s anger surged and she wanted to slap him across the
face. You think I m a slut? How dare you judge me when you
can t even look at yourself in the mirror! You re a homophobic
asshole who wants everyone to think he s some macho stud,
when really you re a pathetic coward. You re the worst kind of
gay person, Brody, because of your prejudice. You say all those
horrible things about gay people. You re one, too, buddy.
 Oh, yeah? Brody yelled.
Ronnie got in Brody s face and poked him in the chest. Yeah,
you re a total ass.
 Slut!
 Asshole!
Brody glanced sideways and realization dawned that he and
Ronnie were the main attraction at the bar. He pulled his jacket
on. If you want to be with that woman, then you can figure out
how to get home. I m not standing around watching you screw
over Diane. I m leaving in five minutes, too. You make your
choice.
He left her in the bar. She sat down in the booth, not know-
ing what to do and not understanding her feelings at all. She
nursed the tail end of her beer, losing all track of time. When she
had arrived in L.A., she only wanted fun, but now she was in a
complicated relationship with a woman who wouldn t return her
affections.
She didn t know what to do, but as the time pushed three
o clock, she knew she wouldn t find the answers in a dive bar out- [ Pobierz całość w formacie PDF ]
